To-Be List

Do you actually know the kind of life that you want, and the kind of person that you would like to become?

One of my mentors told me once about the importance to prioritize our To-Be list as much as, if not more than, our To-Do list. While our To-Do list represents tasks that need to be accomplished, our To-Be list focuses on the person we want to become, the skills we want to achieve, and the values we want to embody.

Since then, I found this as a very important and enlightening process. My To-Be list is like a blueprint of how I want my life to happen, how I set my priorities and how I make better decisions. I also learn to become more resilient, as I am better at handling setbacks and challenges when I am grounded in my values and focus on my greater purposes.

I found that some small changes in my daily life, really support my To-Be list;

• Block 4-5 hours of my mornings for myself to work on who I wanna be. To exercise, read, write, and create. Exercise, we all know why. Reading allows me to learn. Writing allows me to extract, memorize, and transfer what I've learnt. Creating is how I put value on my life.

• Plan the night before. Morning is time to execute, so I plan the night before for everything that I wanna read, write, create, and do. Including the chores that I will handle that day.

• Be very purposeful and specific on the To-Do list, that they have to support your To-Be list. When I spend a day with my friends, my only to-be is; a good friend. And the only thing on my to-do list that day is to really be present with them. I clear my day for them from other tasks until we parted and I might add some bonus tasks to be done. The same goes with when I have a family day, or client-meeting day. That's how I do work, too.

• Be more mindful on mobile and social media use. Instead of just consuming, I choose to create more. For me, it doesn't have to be profitable in economic value, but it has to be useful in the sense of building better community of the people whom I am surrounded with.

My To-Be list doesn't change as much or as fast as my To-Do list, but when it changes, I invest 100% of my energy and dedicate my time towards building it.

Masterpiece

A masterpiece is not only the result of progressing skill sets of the artist/ creator. In my opinion, it is even more to the results of the expanding character and evolving mind of the artist, from time to time. How we grow our wisdom and our understanding towards ourselves and life, matter the most. How we choose to express them, what medium that we prefer, and which skill sets that we will use, will follow later. Art is just one of the few mediums that I chose to explore life, express my thoughts, and to expand myself. To experience life, explore myself, and encapsulated the journey through as many masterpieces as I could, is my main personal goal as an artist. However, being an artist is never my goal. To be a human that understand life, is. And that's how my priority works. Should there be one day for me to leave art behind and work with another medium to explore my path, I wouldn't hesitate even a split second to leave. My true masterpiece will be my own life. --- My work ...

Gratitude

I know gratitude is important and I, myself, have been experiencing the positive effect of it. Yet, not until yesterday, I really witness the real power of gratitude. So, I joined Inalix's team building event virtually, yesterday. I've been managing and coordinating their digital presence and publication these few months. On that virtual meeting, we listened to the history of Inalix, and we get to know almost every members and listen to their stories. One of the newest colleagues that just joined Inalix is Wahid. He was one of the few who joined the event virtually as well. I could see he was laying down on his bed, and I thought he was sick. Indeed, he was sick, but it wasn't the kind of sickness that I thought. His friend who took him to join Inalix, told us his story. He couldn't move most of his body parts; from toes to recently his jaw, he couldn't really move them. He could move his head and hands, but the rest was numb. So, he couldn't munch food, and cou...
