10 Things We Don't Buy Anymore As Minimalists

10 things we don't buy anymore as minimalists, and few things that we still buy to replace the old ones.

1. Physical Book

Not only physical book takes spaces, most of the physical books that available here are also outdated and strongly curated. We can only grow when we learn to understand different perspectives and see things from different angles, even from the one that we might disagree with. To read the same books that everyone reads and only cater to certain perspectives, certainly won't help us to grow. We also have to get the latest knowledge and facts to get better results in everything. I find e-books fill those needs ad gaps better for me, while my husband choose audio books, lately.

2. Perfume

If you should, you won't need more than one bottle that will last for 1-2 years.

3. Physical Music

I use Spotify.

4. Coffee Machine & Refill

1 French Press and 1 manual dripper do the works well until now.

5. Souvenirs

We don't buy for ourselves, and not for others as well, unless they specifically ask for mementos. We prefer to give people food than souvenirs.

6. Gym and Pool Membership

We learnt that the most sustainable exercise is not only the one that we enjoy the most, but also the one that we could do effortlessly. Our apartment happened to have a pool and a gym, so we use what we have, which also take less effort and less time to travel, although the tools might not be as complete as other membership places.

7. Ceramic / Glass Tools

he has a bad relationship with them, and we prefer metal ware for the simplicity and durability.

8. Cutleries

The good ones last for more than a decade.

9. Hair Accessories

Having a short hair is actually one of the best and smartest decisions in my life.

10. Nail Gel

Yes, you read that right. Some of you know that I was a big lover or nail gel, but yes no more for me, at least until I got better facts about it. My goal is to be healthy, and recent info about UV led that is being used for nail gel, are just unpleasant for me and contradictive to my goal, so I simply end it.

And these are few things that we still buy to replace the old and broken ones...

  • Clothes - I bought few recently cause my size dropped quite a few that my old clothes are just unfit for me now.
  • Mobile Phone & Gadget - We rarely buy the latest ones and we don't follow trend. However, we are very specific about the specs that we need.
  • Bags - Woof, this one was hard for me, I love bags lol. But yes, so far I managed to replace only the old and broken ones, and let go of them before I buy a new one. And mostly the new one did a better job, too. I only wear genuine leather and nylon bags, they are simpler to clean and care.
  • Shoes and sandals - I only added a pair of shoes to fix my walking issues. Mostly we replace the broken ones like every 1-2 years).
  • Cooking Tools - I found that mostly I need to replace my non-stick wok and vegie strainer every 1-2 years. The rest last for more than 5 years, some even more than a decade. I still have my mom's steel wok that she already had since far before I was born.
The rest are just daily needs, food, or things that spark joy to us, like jewelry for me, and outdoor gears for him, that we bought in total awareness.

Minimalism, like most other lifestyles, is a process that needs steps and time. If you just starting to be a minimalist, please be gentle towards yourself and your progress. Never aim for perfection, only aim for improvements.

A Perfectly Happy Artist

-When Beatrix Potter was a little girl, imagining stories about rabbits that wear smart jackets, she was a lonely child who needed to concoct some company. And when Monet paint his impressionistic water lilies, he was a man deeply dissatisfied with traditional views of nature. The inventions of writers and artists are forged through dissatisfaction. That discrepancy between the world we walk through and the world inside of us encourages some to try to build a bridge (in the shape of a book about talking bunnies or an impressionistic painting). A perfectly happy artist would be a failure.- "I disagree on the part of the perfectly happy artist, tho." "Oh why?" Freedom

Freedom is never cheap, but just like everything else in the world; there is always a price to pay to have it. The question is never about "How much?". Instead, it is always a matter of "Are you willing to pay the price for it?" --------- - Aim for a better tomorrow through healthy lifestyle, diverse insights, creative arts, and minimalist living. -  ViliaCiputra.com Thank you for supporting  my intention  through owning  my artworks , reading  my writings , and following  my Instagram . Bento Box

So, the last two weeks was actually a test and trial period for me. I've eliminated fried food almost half year, but intrigued to know whether there is a difference between fried food at home VS fried food at good restaurant chain VS fried food at street hawkers, on my cholesterol level. The result on me was; yes there is a HUGE difference between them. My cholesterol level was barely affected when I do pan fry (not deep fry) at home with olive oil (146/200) VS raised a little when I ate fried food at a good restaurant chain (165/200) VS a huge spike when I ate fried food at street hawkers (211/200). So, clearly the oil that we use, how many times it was being used, and how we cook, matters. I also got insights on my uric acid level. While my cholesterol level wasn't affected much, my uric acid level is a completely different story. My uric acid raised almost 0.5 - 0.8 points every time I dine out, even when I didn't eat red meat/ high purine food. My guess was; either the ...
